Fresh Picks & Fashion Misses: Spring’s Hottest Jewelry Trends

This season, fashion designers are all about oversized earrings and chunky charms, but I’m taking a different route. Honestly, I’m over the heavy jewelry trend. I don’t care that Valentino models strutted the runway in giant hoops or that Sonia Rykiel showcased body chains dripping with charms. I’ll always prefer a delicate necklace or bracelet over bulky accessories.

Spring is the perfect time to embrace a lighter, breezier style. As the scarves, beanies, and gloves get packed away, they make room for shorts, capris, and tank tops. Shedding those winter layers has me excited to put together airy, feminine outfits—and I want my jewelry to match.

That’s not to say all spring jewelry trends are a miss. Some are worth paying attention to, especially those that bring a fresh, wearable touch. Here are my top picks.

Charms and coins were everywhere on the SS/19 runways, adorning everything from clothing to body chains. The best part? You can make this trend completely your own.

Want to wear charms that celebrate motherhood? Go for it. Thinking of turning your grandmother’s ring into a necklace? Absolutely. Or maybe you’d rather pick up some inexpensive charms and create a custom piece? That works too.

And don’t limit yourself to necklaces—charms look great on bracelets, earrings, anklets, and even belts. Take, for example, a charmed ring by Ileana Makri. I can’t vouch for how comfortable it is, but it sure is adorable.

Givenchy, Nina Kastens, and Marni have all reimagined the classic hoop for spring/summer 2019, and I’m here for it. A fresh take on a timeless piece is always a conversation starter. Square hoops, sideways hoops, abstract designs—there’s something for everyone.

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with the Malev hoops by Ana Luisa. They’re lightweight, beautifully crafted, and the hammered finish adds a nice shine. The square shape is a fun twist on the traditional round hoop.

These earrings are versatile enough to pair with anything—except maybe your gym outfit. They’re casual enough for jeans but can also complement a cocktail dress effortlessly.

I’ve always had a soft spot for anklets, even when they weren’t in style. Now that they’re making a comeback, I’m excited to see dainty designs taking center stage instead of the bold, logo-heavy versions seen at Versace.

One standout piece is by Candela, which combines two spring trends—charms and delicate details. The colored stones, rock quartz, and blue topaz add a subtle yet stylish touch.

Hearts are making their way into accessories this season, from sunglasses to jewelry. Escada went big—literally—by featuring oversized heart-shaped designs on bracelets and necklaces.

If you prefer something more understated, you’re in luck. Heart-inspired pieces in subtle, elegant styles are easy to find. Bauble Bar, for example, offers plenty of affordable yet eye-catching options.

Pearls never truly go out of style, but they do have their moments in the spotlight. Right now, they’re having a major resurgence, thanks to appearances on the Chanel, Oscar de la Renta, and Prabal Gurung runways.

To make this trend your own, opt for modern, playful designs. If you love the timeless appeal of pearl strands or stud earrings, go for pieces that exude luxury. This helps avoid the one downside of pearls—they can sometimes look outdated or cheap if not styled well.

Runway trends often push the boundaries, and this season is no different. I’ll be skipping the oversized rings that cover an entire hand, the over-the-top blinged-out earrings, and the dramatic body chains.
