I received my Silhouette straightener from Nume about a week ago. Before even opening the box, I checked out the official details and customer reviews on Nume’s website. If you’ve read my review of the Nume curling wand, you know my hair is a challenge—fine, thin, and fragile—so I’m always on the lookout for products that can help manage it.
When it comes to hair tools, I tend to be skeptical. Even though I love the Nume wand, I had my doubts about the Silhouette. On paper, it sounds like a game-changer. It’s priced at $139 and has an impressive 4.8-star rating from over 2,000 reviews. The straightener features floating ceramic plates that heat up quickly and glide smoothly through hair without snagging. It also uses negative ion technology to lock in moisture and reduce frizz—something essential, especially in the summer. Plus, the beveled edges allow for curling as well, though I haven’t tested that feature yet.
Now for my experience: I’ve used the Silhouette twice so far, and the results have been pretty amazing. My hair turned out soft, straight, and silky, with significantly less frizz compared to just blow-drying. Keep in mind, I live in St. Louis, where the weather has been around 95 degrees with 75% humidity. I don’t know if I’ve been missing out, but I’ve never used a styling tool that keeps my hair looking this good all day in such extreme conditions.
I should mention that I’ve only used the straightener with Argan oil, and I don’t plan to change that. Argan oil works wonders for my hair, so it’s now a daily essential for me.
Using the Silhouette is incredibly simple. I applied a small amount of Argan oil, sectioned my hair, and ran the straightener over each 2-inch section just once. That was all it took to achieve sleek, smooth hair that lasted all day.
Before straightening, my hair was blow-dried but still had an odd, wavy texture. I clipped up the top half and worked through the lower sections, one at a time. The entire process took less than 10 minutes.
Twelve hours later, my hair was still straight and shiny. I even tested it again on another hot, humid day, styling my hair in the morning to see if the results would hold up. Spoiler: they did.
